Film Description:

This Audioquatroscopy is based on a coloured Google Earth view of the Montjuïch Communication Tower in Barcelona. The Tower has its unique design by Swiss architect Santiago Calatrava and was constructed for the Summer Olympic Games 1992.

I have it move to the tune of Manuel de Falla‘s Danse Espangnole from his opera La Vida Breve, which he composed in 1913 for piano. This Dance Espagnole was arranged for violin an piano by Fritz Kreisler in 1929, performed here by Carrie Rehkopf (Violin) and Lisa Bergmann (piano). I found this recording at the royalty-free site http://www.commons.wikimedia.org.

My invention of audioquatroscopy represents a type of mobile, digital design, whose movements are synchronized to the rhythm of a music piece. A quatroscope is a four-sided mirror tunnel, similar to a kaleidoscope, but with four, rather than three mirrors. A square image placed at one end – when watched from the other end of the tunnel – is reflected repeatedly in four directions, leading to unexpected and fascinating patterns. These patterns change, when the central image is moved.
