Director’s Name: Paolo Catellani

Country of Origin: Italy

Country of Filming: Italy

Runtime: 2 minutes 58 seconds

Film Description:

The documentary is centred on an interview with a young Senegalese man who arrived in Italy after enduring countless hardships in Africa. To enhance the story, there is a fictional part about a little boy and a bandana.

The documentary provides a clear and vivid description of what human trafficking in Africa really is. A steeplechase based on the ancient caravan routes from the sub-Saharan regions to the Mediterranean, now the main routes of the new slave trade. How do trafficking organisations work? What does it mean for a young man of 22 to embark on such a dangerous journey? What are his motivations, his dreams? What kind of future does he have once he arrives in our country?

Malamine is not just an immigrant, he is a survivor! Yet many of his fellow travellers didn’t make it. As a duty of truth and justice, we have the task of collecting his story, in honour of those sunk into the sand.
